<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a two-dimensional rectangular code symbol reader capable of reading data from various shaped images with deformation or gradient. <P>SOLUTION: This two-dimensional rectangular code symbol reader is provided with an input means inputting a two-dimensional image data, a symbol area detection means detecting corner positions from the two-dimensional image data, specifying a symbol area, and extracting symbol image data, a projection conversion calculation means performing projection conversion on the symbol image data for correcting distortion of the symbol image data, a decode means reading the corrected symbol image data and converting them into code data, and an output means outputting the code data.
