PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat developable sensitive material having high sensitivity, improved raw stock storability and a high silver iodide content, and to provide an image forming method. SOLUTION: The heat developable sensitive material includes, on at least one surface of a support, at least a photosensitive silver halide, a non-photosensitive organic silver salt, a reducing agent and a binder, wherein≥50% of the total projected area of the photosensitive silver halide is occupied by tabular grains, each tabular grain has at least one epitaxial junction, and an average silver iodide content of the silver halide of the epitaxial junction is 0.1-20 mol%, or the epitaxial junction comprises at least silver chlorobromide.
