PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk reproducing unit for eliminating the display of an unneeded TV screen for simplifying operation, when a music CD is reproduced for simply generating sound from a speaker. SOLUTION: The optical disk reproducing unit can output sound to the speaker by reproducing a first optical disk on which sound data are recorded, can reproduce a second optical disk on which image data are recorded for outputting video data to an external display, and incorporates a display panel for displaying an operation input state related to the reproduction of the first optical disk. The optical disk reproducing unit comprises an output section for outputting an image signal for displaying at least an operation input state related to the reproduction of the first and second optical disks to an external display; and a display mode determination section for selecting either a built-in display panel display mode for allowing the display panel to display the operation input state of the first optical disk on the display panel, or an external display device display mode for displaying the operation input state on the display device.
