A method of depolymerizing a polymer having an ester bond in the main chain which comprises causing a solid acid catalyst to act on the polymer having an ester bond in the main chain to depolymerize the polymer and thereby obtain a repolymerizable monomer and/or oligomer as a depolymerization product; and a process for producing a polymer having an ester bond in the main chain which comprises polymerizing the repolymerizable monomer and/or oligomer obtained by the depolymerization method.
