PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid slippage of a belt even if a steep deceleration request is given to a vehicle equipped with a CVT. SOLUTION: An ECT_ECU executes a program containing a step S200 to sense the CVT oil temperature when the vehicle is in the steep stopping condition (Yes at step S100), a step S300 to sense the vehicle acceleration (deceleration), a step S400 to determine whether the operation is made in the guard region by making reference to a map in which the duty upper limit value for down-shifting is set so that the exhaust of the working oil from a primary pulley is not conducted steeply as the CVT oil temperature is higher and the deceleration is larger, and a step S500 to acquire the down-shift duty upper limit guard from the map when the operation is in the guard region (Yes at S400).
