<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synthetic resin bottle that can sufficiently be used for application requiring high-temperature heat processing, particularly as for retort food, by creating a barrel wall structure which fully exhibits a pressure absorbing function and a vacuum absorbing function and can smoothly be deformed while copying with a great change from an increase in pressure to a decrease in pressure. <P>SOLUTION: The barrel of the round bottle has peripheral grooves with a recessed cross-sectional shape, the peripheral grooves being formed by bending the wall of the barrel. The barrel can be vertically extended or contracted by the elastic deformation of the cross-sectional shape of each of the peripheral grooves.
