PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image sensor and a flicker noise detection method, having a function of automatically removing flickers in all the cases where flicker noise occurs. SOLUTION: An image sensor has a pixel arranging portion 30 for arranging pixels in N rows and M columns (N and M are integers) which make full use of characters for reacting with the light of a semiconductor, and detecting information concerning an image inputted from the outside; a flicker noise detecting pixel 31 for arranging pixels so as to be arranged in X rows (X is an even number) by the arrangement of the row of the pixel arranging portion 30 extended for a flicker noise detection, and M columns and a pair of rows so as to have the same exposure time; and a flicker noise detecting portion 32 for controlling an exposure start point for the flicker noise detection pixel portion 31, and detecting the flicker noise, by using the output from the flicker noise detection pixel portion 31.
