PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal having character input/conversion function, a character input/conversion method and its program capable of reducing the number of times of key operations according to the actual use status of Japanese. SOLUTION: A key setting part 20 allocates characters from "A(Japanese syllabary)" line to "WA" line to keys for inputting characters for each line, and circulating display for switching characters in each line each time each key is depressed is set. As this circulating display, a display mode in the order of "A" column, "I" column, "U" column, "E" column and "O" column and a display mode in the order of "A" column, "O" column, "I" column, "U" column and "E" column can be set, and a display in the order of "WA, WO, N" and a display mode in the order of "N, WA, WO" can be set in a "WA" line.
