PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine drive system equipped with a battery suited for re-starting the engine. SOLUTION: In the engine drive system which stops the engine 4 when the vehicle stops running and restarts the engine when the vehicle starts running, an electronic engine control system 10 to control the engine 4, a motor 5 to re-start the engine 4, and a battery 8 to supply electric power to the motor 5 are provided, wherein the battery 8 is equipped with an anode plate 21 formed in a thin strip shape, a cathode plate 20 formed in a thin strip shape, and a separator 22 of a strip shape installed between the anode plate 21 and the cathode plate 20, while the anode 21, the cathode 20 and the separator are wound up to form an electrode plate group, and the electrode plate group is composed by being immersed into an electrolytic solution.
