PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lead-acid battery having a long service life and an excellent capacity recovery property, and using a Pb-Ca-based alloy substrate for a positive electrode. SOLUTION: This lead-acid battery is so structured that 0.005-0.5 mass% of Sb is included in at least a part of a surface of a positive electrode substrate formed of a Pb-Ca-based alloy or/and an active material filled in the positive electrode substrate; and 2-50 mass% of Al is included in an electrolyte in terms of sulfate. Alternatively, the lead-acid battery is so structured that 0.005-0.5 mass% of Sb is included in at least a part of a surface of the positive electrode substrate formed of a Pb-Ca-based alloy or/and an active material filled in the positive electrode substrate; 0.005-1.0 mass% of Sn is included therein; and 2-50 mass% of Al is included in an electrolyte in terms of sulfate.
