PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner capable of improving heating performance and reducing power consumption. SOLUTION: This air conditioner comprises a heat exchanger 2, an air blower 3, and a drain pan 4 for storing the condensed water generated in the heat exchanger 2, the heat exchanger 2 is composed of a fin 2a and heat transfer tubes 2b penetrated through the fin 2a and forming a plurality of refrigerant flow channels A-E, and the refrigerant is allowed to flow into the refrigerant flow channels A positioned at a windward side of a lowermost part of the heat exchanger 2, and arranged in the vertical direction, and then to flow into the other refrigerant flow channels B-E in a branched state. Thus, the submerging of the refrigerant flow channels E positioned at a bottommost part of the heat exchanger 2 for allowing the branched refrigerant to flow therein, can be reduced in a case when the heat exchanger 2 is used as an evaporator, the increase of flow channel resistance of the heat transfer tube and a balance tube becomes unnecessary, and the accumulation of the refrigerant in the heat exchanger 2 can be prevented when the heat exchanger 2 is used as a condenser. Further by forming the refrigerant flow channels A at the windward side, a supercooling degree of the refrigerant is increased, the heating performance can be improved, and the power consumption can be reduced.
