A personal care composition comprising a silicone resin of the generic formula MQ, wherein the ratio of M to Q is about from 0.01/1 to about 3.96/1, wherein M is of the formula R<SUP>1</SUP><SUB>a</SUB>R<SUP>2</SUP><SUB>b</SUB>R<SUP>3</SUP><SUB>c</SUB>SiO<SUB>1/2 </SUB>wherein each R<SUP>1 </SUP>and R<SUP>2 </SUP>is independently a hydroxyl, a halogen, or a monovalent hydrocarbon radical having 1 to about 60 carbon atoms and R<SUP>3 </SUP>is a monovalent hydrocarbon aralkyl radical having 9 to about 40 carbon atoms, optionally with a heteroatom, and a=1, 2, or 3; b=0, 1, or 2; c=0, 1, or 2; subject to the limitation that a+b+c=3; Q is of the generic formula SiO<SUB>4/2</SUB>; and a personal care component, wherein the resin is present in an amount effective to increase the SPF of the formulation at least about 10% over the same formulation without the resin.
