beta-CHITIN COMPOSITE AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

A beta-chitin composite which comprises a clathrate compound constituted of beta-chitin as a host and a guest compound which is a compound having a functional group capable of forming a hydrogen bond with a hydroxy group and/or amide group of the beta-chitin and having a melting point of 60°C or higher. The beta-chitin composite is prepared by a method comprising the step of heating the guest compound to a temperature not lower than the melting point thereof to prepare a melt of the guest compound and the step of immersing anhydrous beta-chitin in the melt or by a method comprising the step of dissolving or suspending the guest compound in a solvent to prepare a guest carrier solution and the step of immersing beta-chitin in the guest carrier solution.
