<p>The present invention relates to a method to determine the number of all receiving users in multimedia broadcast/multicast service(MBMS) system. Said method comprises: (1) during the session starting procedure, core network sends an inquiry identifier to the base station controller (BSCs)/radio network controllers(RNCs), said identifier indicates whether BSCs/RNCs inquire all users about the receiving the MBMS session condition or not; (2) before BSCs/RNCs establishing radio resources, BSCs/RNCs judge whether the inquiry identifier sent from the core network is valid or not. If it is valid, BSCs/RNCs inquire if the user equipments (UEs) receive the MBMS session, and determine the number of all receiving users according to the response returned from UEs. Otherwise, the number of the receiving users can be determined on the assumption that all users that activate the MBMS service would like to receive the session. The method of the present invention can reduce a waste of radio network interface resource, simplify the network signaling process, thus avoid unnecessary UE response procedure, make UEs save power much more, and increase standby time of UEs.</p> |
