LASER POWER CONTROL UNIT AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize rising time to peak power by impressing threshold current always without detecting bottom power for emitting a laser pulse in recording of an optical disk.

SOLUTION: Setting of a current for emitting bottom power is performed by computing a peak level by a peak level calculation section 107 from a pulse average level detected in an average level detection section from recording laser emission, and computing a threshold current ith in a drive current operation part by a space level detected by space section detector 108.
