The manufacture of cold rolled steel strip with a dual phase ferrite-martensite structure from hot rolled strip consists of: (a) coiling the hot rolled strip at a temperature between 550 and 850oC; (b) cold rolling the strip with a rate of reduction of between 60 and 90%; (c) continuously annealing the strip in the intercritical domain; (d) cooling to ambient temperature, the speed of cooling between 600oC and ambient temperature being between 100 and 1500oC/second; (e) possibly subjecting it to tempering at a temperature below 300oC. The annealing and cooling operations lead to the strip finally containing 1 to 15% of martensite. An independent claim is included for the cold rolled steel strip obtained by this method. |
