An electronic cutout fuse (ECF) has an input (E) linked to a current supply's output (A). The ECF also has a supply path (P) that runs between the ECF's input and output. In the supply path there is a detector unit (8) for supplying measurement values that are passed on to a prognostic unit (4) via a communications channel (K), where data is detected by using stored references.
