<p>Several radius measurement sensors (9, 11) are located parallel to the longitudinal axis (16) of the supply roll (1). They contact the supply roll, or are non-contacting sensors. They are optical or acoustic. The measurement beam of the sensors includes an angle (alpha ) of +-15[deg] with the horizontal, or is horizontal. The sensors are located at the side of the roller, at least three sensors being situated adjacently. There are at least a pair of sensors on diametrically-opposite sides of the roller. From the sensors, an analysis unit (26) determines variations from the ideal shape of the roller. Departures from roundness, are registered from radius variations and comparisons. Comparisons of radii from the group of sensors, establish any roll conicity. The evaluation unit is also implemented as a controller (24) using a common processor (13). This controls the adhesive tape dispenser. An interface provided, reads a data set in and out. The unit writes the measured radius and its departures into the data. The sensors (9, 11) are arranged in a unit applying adhesive tape (17). This can be moved parallel to the axis (16). Two rotary rollers (3) are associated with the supply roll and are positioned at differing heights, in accordance with the radius of the supply roll.</p> |
