<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit a measurer himself to count a heart rate without trying to measure consciously by providing an optical signal transmission means that varies the transmission condition of optical signals in accordance with vibration based on the heartbeats so as to detect heartbeat data concerning heartbeat on the basis of the transmission condition of optical signals. SOLUTION: Optical signals in a heartbeat sensor S propagate near the surface of an optical waveguide 1c. Therefore, if a disturbance member 2 approaches, as it brings about a change in the distribution of refractive indexes near the optical waveguide 1c, altering the propagation condition of the optical signals, a loss occurs in propagating optical signals. As this loss changes on the basis of the relative physical relationship between the disturbance member 2 and the optical waveguide 1c, vibration causing a change in loss can be detected on the basis of the propagation condition of the optical signals, thereby enabling a measurer himself to count a heart rate without attaching consciously a heartbeat counter to his finger or wrist by attaching appropriately the heartbeat sensor S to a part which conveys vibration based on heartbeats.</p> |
