A method of reinforcing an embedded cylindrical pipe, in which a band of reinforcement fibres (21, fig.2) and a resin matrix act as a composite reinforcement, the band being arranged along a helicoidal path along the internal side of the pipe. Preferably the reinforcement fibres are carbon fibres, and the pipe may be formed from concrete with a metal liner 12. The pipe may also include at least one pre-stressing thread 15 wound around the concrete and protected with a mortar. Drainage holes 28 are preferably pierced through the liner before the reinforcement is applied. A layer of compressible material may be situated between the internal side of the pipe and the reinforcement. Also claimed is underground works including a cylindrical reinforced pipe. |
