A support for a tool being coated using a CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) and/or MTCVD (Moderate Temperature Chemical Vapor Deposition) technique comprises a material of formula M n+1AX n. M : one or more metals chosen from Groups IIIB, IVB, VB, VIB or VIII; A : one or more elements chosen from groups IIIA, IVA, VA or VIA; X : C and/or N; and n : 1-3. An independent claim is also included for a CVD or MTCVD method for coating a tool using this support.
