Conventional contrast control circuits involve such a problem that the luminance is lowered since the signal level of a luminance signal is shifted as a whole, thereby causing decrease in the peak luminance. In the present invention, the direct current component of a luminance signal is shifted as much as needed, and a certain expansion processing is conducted on the luminance signal whose direct current component has been shifted for increasing the signal level of a highlight portion. |
