PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and an operating member capable of selecting another operating mode without interrupting a photographing operation in a present operating mode. SOLUTION: In the case that a moving picture photographing mode is set to the imaging apparatus by a mode setting dial for switching between the moving picture photographing mode and a still picture photographing mode, when an image photographing button is pushed into a digital camera main body almost in a vertical direction, a release switch 32 outputs an ON signal, and when being moved in a direction different from the push-in direction of the image photographing button, a position detection switch 37 outputs an ON signal, when detecting the ON signal outputted from the release switch 32, a CPU 109 performs the moving picture photographing mode, and when detecting the ON signal outputted from the release switch 32 and thereafter detecting the ON signal outputted from the position detection switch 37, the CPU 109 performs the still picture photographing mode.
