<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium which is suitable for a write once DVD disk system corresponding to a high speed writing. <P>SOLUTION: This optical recording medium is constituted by providing at least a recording layer on a base board. The recording layer has an azo metal chelate compound which is represented by structural formula (1). In this case, in the structural formula (1), X represents an atom chosen from chalcogen. Ring A represents a 5 member ring which is formed in such a manner that X atom and a nitrogen atom being adjacent become together, and the 5 member ring may be further substituted for a substituent. R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>5</SP>each may be the same or may be different, and represent either one of a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom and an organic group. These may be further substituted for a substituent, and adjacent ones from among R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>5</SP>may form a ring by connecting with each other.
