PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the dimension of the lens barrel in the direction of the optical axis when the lens barrel is collapsed, without affecting a high shutter speed and increasing the diameter of the lens barrel. SOLUTION: The imaging device includes: a collapsible lens barrel 22 stored in a body when photographing is not taken; and a shutter unit 34 which is disposed behind the rearmost optical lens of a plurality of optical lenses composing the lens barrel 22, has a plurality of shutter vanes 34b attached to a unit base member 34a having an opening, and opens or closes the plurality of shutter vanes 34b by electromagnetic drive. Control is exerted to carry out selective switching between the first state in which when the lens barrel 22 is collapsed, the plurality of shutter vanes 34b are all opened and at least part of the plurality of optical lenses composing the lens barrel 22 is situated in the opening and the second state in which when the lens barrel 22 is drawn out of the main body of the device, the plurality of shutter vanes 34b are closed from the first state and they are opened or closed at a required shutter speed.
