PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an etching cost by reducing a discontinuous operation step. SOLUTION: An etching method comprises the steps of: preparing an ink which employs a resin material soluble in water or in a water-alcohol liquid mixture as a vehicle, and contains ferric chloride enclosed in a porous micro-capsule; producing a gravure printing on a metallic sheet with the use of the ink; forming a coating layer made of the resin material soluble in water or in the water-alcohol liquid mixture on a printed surface; contacting water or the water-alcohol liquid mixture with the coating layer; and then cleaning and drying the metallic sheet.
