PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a memory device based on an electric field programmable film. SOLUTION: The electric field programmable film comprises a polymer bonded to an electroactive moiety. A method for manufacturing an electric field programmable film comprises depositing upon a substrate, a composition comprising a polymer and the electroactive moiety that is bonded to the polymer. A data processing machine comprises a processor for performing an instruction; and a memory device comprises the electric field programmable film, wherein the electric field programmable film comprises a polymer bonded to an electroactive moiety, and further wherein the memory device is in electrical and/or optical communication with the processor.
