PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic endoscope which controls light easily, reads out the entire pixels, and synthesizes high-definition images in a frame with less blurring of images, a light source device for electronic endoscopes, and a rotary shutter used for this. SOLUTION: The light source device has a light source, the rotary shutter which has a rotation axis placed in parallel with an optical axis of the light source and intercepts light entering from the light source or outputs the light to a light guide, and an interaxial distance changing means for changing an interaxial distance between the optical axis of the light source and the rotation axis. The rotary shutter comprises a semi-circular light intercepting part and an aperture which changes an aperture ratio circumferentially by corresponding to a diameter of a luminous flux entering the rotary shutter from the light source. The light intensity is changed by changing the interaxial distance through the center distance changing means, using the diameter of the luminous flux entering the rotary shutter from the light source as a unit.
