<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for restoring a compressed image with which blocking artifacts and ring effects caused by a decoded image signal can be prevented. <P>SOLUTION: In an apparatus for restoring the compressed image in an image processing system, a smoothing function representing the extent of smoothing of an image and reliability for an original image by pixels having the same quality is defined for the unit of an image block, and the smoothing function is inclined for the original image to obtain an image to be restored. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
