PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which problems of separation failure are solved occurring in an image forming apparatus having a separation pawl as a separation means on an organic photoreceptor having a siloxane resin layer as a surface layer, cracks or wear flaws on the photoreceptor due to scratches by the pawl are prevented, separation failure is improved and a preferable halftone image can be obtained, so as to solve problems of an organic photoreceptor having a siloxane resin layer as a surface layer, and to provide a method for forming an image by using the image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus equipped with a separation means having a separation pawl to separate a transfer sheet from an organic photoreceptor is characterized in that: the organic photoreceptor has surface physical properties expressed by general expression (1):1.5≥B/A≥1.0; the developing means contains toner having toner particles with 1.2 to 1.6 shape factor by≥65% in number; and the separation pawl comprises a member having less than 0.2% water absorption.
