PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic shock absorber capable of having the degree of freedom on damping actions in a built-in damper. SOLUTION: A base valve 7 is provided in a cylinder body 3 forming a handstand type damper built in a shaft center portion. A partition member 8 slidably housed in the cylinder body 3 advances with a pressure means 9 arranged at a back side while the cylinder body 3 is partitioned into a pressure receiving face side as a piston 6 side and the back side as an opposite side in the cylinder body 3, and moves back by resisting the pressure means 9 with pressure in the cylinder body 3. In the hydraulic shock absorber maintaining the pressure in the cylinder body 3 in a constant state by releasing pressure at the pressure receiving face side to the outside of the cylinder body 3 when the partition member 8 moves back to the far end, the base valve 7 is arranged on the pressure receiving face side of the partition member 8, and an auxiliary damping portion 5 is also arranged into inside air while the partition member 8 is formed in a cylindrical shape with a bottom.
