PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous-casting method, by which molten metal in a mold is effectively stirred only by electromagnetic force of an AC magnetic field and surface characteristics of a cast slab is improved up to a sufficient depth of the slab. SOLUTION: The molten metal is continuously cast as follows: the molten metal is poured, through an immersion nozzle, into a water-cooling mold, which is vibrated at a constant cycle and consists of a pair of long sides and a pair of short sides; the poured molten metal is solidified while making the electromagnetic force act in such a direction that the molten metal is separated from a mold wall, by the AC magnetic field generated by an electromagnetic coil provided around the periphery of the water-cooling mold; and the solidified metal is continuously withdrawn downward. When continuously casting the molten metal as stated above, the stirring region and velocity of a stirring flow in the molten metal are set within a specified range by controlling a magnetic field gradient. The gradient is a base for a distribution in the cast-slab drawing direction of the electromagnetic force acting in such a direction that the molten metal is separated from a mold wall.
