<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform individual identification with higher accuracy by surely imaging the face of a user that is turned in the different direction from the front. <P>SOLUTION: An authentication system which authenticates a user comprises a first imaging section for imaging the face of the user, a second imaging section for imaging the face of the user in the different direction from that of the first imaging section, a direction calculation section for calculating the direction where the face of the user is turned, based on face images picked up by the first imaging section and the second imaging section, respectively, a selection section for selecting at least one of the face images picked up by the first imaging section and the second imaging section, respectively based on the direction where the face of the user is turned, and an authentication section which authenticates the user using the face image selected by the selection section. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
