PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium wherein the dispersibility of barium ferrite powder is high and a non vinyl chloride resin having good magnetic characteristics is used, and a book or a bankbook using the magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: This magnetic recording medium is provided with a nonmagnetic support, a magnetic recording layer formed on one surface of the nonmagnetic support, and an adhesive layer formed on a surface opposite the surface of the nonmagnetic support having the magnetic recording layer thereon. The magnetic recording layer is a layer formed by finely dispersing barium ferrite powder in an acrylic resin. The acrylic resin is formed by copolymerizing a radical polymeric monomer containing 30 to 40 mass% of a monomer having a hydrophilic polar group in a molecule with respect to a total monomer, and has a structure having no chlorine atoms in the molecule.
