PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable cache control according to characteristics of processing of an application so as to improve data transfer efficiency. SOLUTION: A disk device has: a disk; a cache for temporarily storing data transferred from a host and data read from the disk; and a control part for controlling data transfer between the cache and the host, and the cache and the disk. Cache areas independent of each other can be set in respective command kinds for the applications each having a data processing policy different from each other, inside the cache. By controlling a look-ahead way in each the command kind, the efficient look-ahead making use of an access characteristic of the application having the different data processing policy can be realized.
