PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of dealing with a print head of arbitrary head gap while reducing the processing load of a CPU and capable of suppressing ejection of ink drop to the area other than print area. SOLUTION: The printer comprises a head control section for storing image data of each color read out from an image buffer in an internal memory and transferring the image data stored in the internal memory sequentially to a print head based on a head gap formed between the nozzle arrays of respective colors in the print head, a sensor for detecting a print medium, and a print control section for specifying the size of image data being transferred from the image buffer to the internal memory in the nozzle developing direction of the print head in correspondence with the print area on the print medium based on the detection results from the sensor wherein the head control section is arranged to mask the data storage area in the internal memory with null data for the area deviating from the print area.
