PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide optical glass having optical characteristics of high refractive index and low dispersion and stably manufactured. SOLUTION: The optical glass is borosilicate glass containing at least one kind selected from La<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, Gd<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, Y<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and Yb<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and at least one kind selected rom ZrO<SB>2</SB>, Ta<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>and Nb<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>and the ratio (by weight) of the content in total of La<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, Gd<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, Y<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and Yb<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>to the content in total of SiO<SB>2</SB>and B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>is 2-4 and the ratio (by weight) of the content in total of ZrO<SB>2</SB>, Ta<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>and Nb<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>is 1-2.
