PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video signal demodulator and a video signal demodulating method which removes the jitter component from data based on the DV format inputted via an IEEE 1394 bus. SOLUTION: The demodulator comprises a first memory 1 for generating a standard signal for effective pixel data of compressed video signals synchronized with a fixed frame signal and frame frequency information, an expander 2 for expanding the standard signal, a second memory 3 for rearranging data expanded by the expander 2 according to a fixed format, a decoder 4 for demodulating a data string rearranged to an original data string by the second memory 3 into video signals, and a controller 5 for controlling the first memory 1. The controller 5 generates a first write control signal for the first memory 1 with the frame frequency information used as a reference, and also a read control signal for the first memory 1 with a frame signal outputted by the decoder 4 used as a reference, thereby reducing the memory capacity for demodulating the video signals.
