PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance visibility of an image by correcting chromatic aberration of magnification. SOLUTION: The image display apparatus is characterized in that it is equipped with: a video circuit 11 for outputting a video signal; a one dimensional optical modulator for modulating light emitted from each of a plurality of light sources 8R, 8G, 8B having a different wavelength; a scanner 2 which is rotated in a prescribed direction and which scans for a display face the light modulated by the one dimensional optical modulator; an angular sensor 4 for detecting the rotation angle of the scanner; a memory 10 stored with scanner-related angular data formed on the basis of the scanner rotation angle detected by the angular sensor, and with chromatic aberration correcting data formed as correction quantities to the rotation angle of the scanner for each wavelength concerning the chromatic aberration of magnification produced by wavelength difference; an arithmetic processing means 9 for calculating modulation timing of the one dimensional optical modulator corresponding to each wavelength on the basis of the angular data and the chromatic aberration correcting data stored in the memory; and an optical modulator control means 12 for controlling the modulation timing of the one dimensional optical modulator on the basis of the modulation timing corresponding to each wavelength calculated by the arithmetic processing means.
