PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that vibration becomes large and noise becomes high when low rotational frequency is further reduced or a thin-type motor is incorporated, in a hermetic compressor. SOLUTION: This hermetic compressor comprises a sealed vessel 2; an electric motor element 3 comprising a rotor 12 incorporated into the sealed vessel 2 and a stator 12 having a winding 14; a compression element 5 driven by the rotor 12 of the electric motor element 3; and an inverter 15 for changing the rotational frequency of the electric motor element 3. The rotor 12 has a permanent magnet 17. By making the length of the rotor 12 longer than that of the permanent magnet 17, a moment of inertia can be increased at low costs, vibration at the time of low rotational frequency or incorporation of the thin-type motor can be suppressed, and noise can be reduced.
