PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a building which can positively bear a retrofitted floor for increasing a floor area by stretching floor boards in an open beam area. SOLUTION: According to the structure of the building, a beam member 30S is arranged in parallel with a bearing wall 1S at a location that is spaced a predetermined interval away from the same, and the beam member 30S is connected to the bearing wall 1S in one body by a structural member 25, whereby a load applied to the beam member 30S is transmitted to the bearing wall 1S. Further the open beam area 17 communicating between a lower story and an upper story, is arranged on one side of the beam member 30S opposite to the bearing wall 1S, and therefore when the floor area of the building is increased by arranging the retrofitted floor 28 on the one side of the beam member 30S, the retrofitted floor 28 can be positively borne by the beam member 30S.
