<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of processing quickly and efficiently timewise in the case of printing a file in a common folder and confirming its content or the like. <P>SOLUTION: A file name to be printed is input from an operating part (ST11). It is retrieved whether or not the input file name is in a memory of one's own apparatus and, when the input file name is in the memory of one's own apparatus (ST12 and ST13), it is displayed to a display part that the file is within the memory of one's own apparatus (ST14), file data are read out of the memory of one's own apparatus (ST15), and printed. When the input file name is not in the memory of one's own apparatus in the ST13, the file name is transmitted to a file server 3 together with a transmission request (ST16).
