PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving a plasma display panel and a plasma display device by which a scan electrode and a sustain electrode can be driven and a driving waveform suited to an integrated driving board can be obtained. SOLUTION: Reset, address and sustain discharge operations are performed by applying a driving waveform to the scan electrode while biasing the sustain electrode at a ground voltage, so that a driving board for driving the sustain electrode may be eliminated. When the sustain electrode is biased at the ground voltage, a low voltage is impressed to the scan electrode in a reset period and potential based on the wall charge of the scan electrode is made higher than potential based on the wall charge of an address electrode. By forming positive wall charge in the sustain electrode at the end point of a falling period of the reset period, discharge between the address electrode and the scan electrode and discharge between the sustain electrode and the scan electrode can be generated in the address period. When the absolute value of positive voltage is set larger than that of negative voltage in sustain voltage pulses to be impressed to the scan electrode in a sustain period, a discharge cell which is not selected in an address period can be prevented from generating undesired discharge.
