PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spacer for a liquid crystal display element with which a liquid crystal display element having dry scattering property, no light absence around the spacer, and high-quality display performance, and the liquid crystal display element using the same. SOLUTION: Disclosed is the spacer for the liquid crystal display element which has a coating layer made of a polymer on a base material particulate surface, the spacer for the liquid crystal display element being characterized in that the polymer is a polymer obtained by polymerizing a (meth)acrylic ester monomer mixture, which contains 50 to 90 wt.% (meth)acrylic ester, expressed by a general formula (1), having an C18-22 alkyl group and 10 to 30 wt.% isobornyl methacrylate.
