PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate paint data superior in reproducibility when analyzing an electrodepositing state of the paint film. SOLUTION: This method for generating paint data comprises the steps of: calculating the thickness of paint films to be formed at objective points N1 to Nn (n: natural number) as analyzed film thickness Xb, by analyzing the state of the paint film to be electrodeposited on an article to be coated, on the basis of standard paint data composed of parameters each of which relates to the formation of the paint film; judging whether the real thickness Xa of the paint film that has been electrodeposited on the article from the paint of which the data is to be generated corresponds to the analyzed film thickness Xb, or not; as a result, when the real film thickness Xa is judged not to correspond to the analyzed film thickness Xb, adjusting the parameter value by using an optimization technique so that the analyzed film thickness can approach to the real film thickness; and, when the real film thickness Xa is judged to correspond to the analyzed film thickness Xb, considering the parameters as the generated paint data.
