PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network system capable of receiving a connection request at any time without always opening a standby port, and to provide an authentication method. SOLUTION: In the authentication method for authenticating a communication terminal to which a network system which transmits/receives packets with the other transmission terminal via the Internet is attempted to be connected, an authentication code in which items and character strings for authenticating packets transmitted in the n-th order (1≤n≤N)regarding N packets (N is an integer≥2) to be transmitted from the communication terminal are set is managed, packet information about the N packets transmitted from the communication terminal is recorded, held, a character string of the n-th item for authentication of the authentication code is collated with a character string of the applicable item of the n-th held packet information and when they coincide, the communication terminal is authenticated.
