PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element that is easy to manufacture, small in size, and high in wavelength resolving power, and also to provide a demultiplexing element using it. SOLUTION: The optical element is provided with a one-dimensional photonic crystal structure that is formed by a plurality of parallel grooves 3 being installed at equal intervals in a homogeneous medium 2. The element has an incident end face 4 formed obliquely relative to the direction parallel to the grooves 3 and an exiting end face 5 nearly vertical to the incident end face 4.
