PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly safe navigation system and its control method, capable of preventing the occurrence of accidents, even if the navigation system is operated while the vehicle is moving. SOLUTION: The navigation system 1 comprises an operating means (spatial input device 4); a storage part 6 for storing the conditions of issuing an alarm; an information presenting part (three-dimensional virtual image display device 3); a control part 2; and an outside vehicle condition detecting means (outside vehicle detecting sensor 5). The control part 2 determines whether an alarm is required, by comparing information acquired by the outside vehicle condition detecting means (outside vehicle detecting sensor 5) with the conditions of issuing an alarm and turns the operating means (spatial input device 4) and/or the information presenting part (three-dimensional virtual image display device 3) into alarm mode, when an alarm is required.
