PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a leader tape and a magnetic tape cartridge using the same which realize the reduction of the increase of drop out with transferring of a drive reel or a leader block part due to storing for a long period or traveling at high temperature. SOLUTION: (1)In the leader tape bonded to the tip of a magnetic tape, the center line average roughness (Ra) of a coated layer on a support is 10 to 60 nm, and a ratio of the stiffness in the longitudinal (MD) direction of the leader tape to that of the magnetic tape is 6.0 to 400. (2) In the magnetic tape cartridge obtained by housing a single or a plurality of reels with a magnetic tape wound thereon in a cartridge case in a rotatable manner, the leader tape (1) is used as a leader tape which is bonded to the tip of the magnetic tape for leading the magnetic tape to be pulled out to a magnetic recording and reproducing device.
