PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device whose portability is not lost even in the case of displaying one digital image as an enlarged image, and also to provide a method for controlling image display in the image display device. SOLUTION: In a casing 14 consisting of: a body part 16 forming a notch on its upper surface; and a movable part 18 formed as a shape which is almost the same shape as the body part 16 and slightly smaller than the body part 16 and integrated into the body part 16 so that both the notches are opposed to each other to move between a contracted position and an extended position, the area of an aperture formed by the mutually opposed notches is increased/decreased in accordance with the movement of the movable part 18 to change the size of a picture. A sheet-like liquid crystal panel 12 exposed from an aperture of the casing 14 and having flexibility is turned back to the inside by a main roller 64 and pulled out or pushed into in accordance with the movement of the movable part 18. Since a continuous picture can be formed without being interrupted on a junction part or the like, the portability of the display device is not lost even in the case of displaying one digital image as an enlarged image.
